I see allot of botched eyebrows. I mean, so many that it made me think, what is going on? How does this happen? Why is this happening? Girls are getting their faces ruined by terrible eyebrow tattoos. How?
To start, I think that the perception of permanent makeup/ semi permanent makeup has to change. IT IS NOT A BEAUTY TREATMENT! This is a tattoo on your face. I don't care if artists say it will last for only 2 years... that may not be true for everyone. And the fact that there are so many new 'artists' means that the technique used may not be great and pigment gets inserted way too deep, leading to it lasting even longer! You should be thinking that this is going to last forever. And it's your face.
Consultations are a great opportunity to not only see if the artist is for you, but to make sure that
Equipment should be covered by plastic for each client. Beds, lamps and tables should all be covered when being used.
Ask them about their supplies. Are they disposable? Or do they need to be sterilised?
Is the shop licensed for tattooing? Are they licensed? Many people will just trust the individual that will do their brows. Their license should be displayed in their shop. Please note that permanent makeup is illegal to be done at your house (for good reasons). And should not be done in someone else's living room or kitchen.
This isn't to scare you, but to educate you on the risks and how to avoid not only getting botched brows, but also coming home with something a little extra such as hepatitis.
These are all valid questions and any reputable artist will happily answer these. I'm so happy when my potential clients ask me about these things as it shows that they indeed did their homework! If you ask any of the above questions and you get answers that don't make sense or maybe vague answers, they may not be the artist for you.
I hope that this helps a bit. I am always happy to help, regardless of whether you book with me or not. I hate seeing girls that are wishing they never got their brows done.
Permanent makeup is there to give you beautiful brows that will give you confidence, not to traumatise you and wish that you never made the decision to do something for yourself.
A little bit of common sense goes a long way, but more importantly, the decision to get your brows done should not be done on a whim or a bet (believe me I've seen it). Your artist shouldn't be chosen because they have an appointment on your day off or because it's only around the corner from you house/ work. It's a serious decision and a serious thought process should go into it.
